Celebrating Mass Together and Online

  Fr Jim

Our Bishops have said that currently there is no ‘obligation’ to actually ‘attend’ Mass in a church.
We are however, able to join together to celebrate via our streamed Mass daily at 10am on
Church Services TV

Special Note
On Monday 26th July and all Mondays in August there will be no public Mass celebrated in our Parish. Therefore a streamed Mass will not be available from any of our Churches on those days.

Please Note
We are maintaining our current safety arrangements in our churches in order to continue to provide the safest environment for our Parishioners. We will consider the most appropriate way forward once we have fully reviewed any guidance from the Government and the Bishop.

In line with government requirements, if you attend church parishioners MUST wear a face covering. Seating arrangements are clearly marked; however, accommodation is limited therefore once the maximum number has been reached then no one else will be able to enter.
Note: Please do not arrive for Mass unless you have received confirmation of a place.

We have now increased your opportunity to attend Mass in our Parishes.
Please do not hesitate to book your place.

To attend Mass you MUST book a place.

How to Register for Mass at Our Churches:

To comply with the government Test and Trace instructions we require all people attending Mass to register their name and contact details.
There are two ways to register:

1. Click on the link in the newsletter or on the list of services HERE and complete the online registration.

2. For those without internet access there is a dedicated mobile phone where reservations can be made: 07562 653778 (please do not use the parish office telephone number).

Please note that registration for each Mass will open at midnight one week before the Mass and will close at midnight two days before the date of the Mass. For example the Mass on Sunday 7 March 2021 will open for registration at 00:01 on Sunday 28 February and will close at 23:59 on Friday 5 March. This allows us to produce a register for use by the stewards to record all those who attend the Mass.

New Way of Registering for Mass:
We have changed the forms used to register for Mass to make collecting the information simpler and more accurate and these now consist of two parts.
The first part is the information required for Test and Trace and includes the name and email of the person making the booking. This information is only about the person making the booking not the names of those wanting to attend the Mass.
The second part of the form collects the names (up to six people) of all those wanting to attend the Mass and may or may not include the name of the person making the booking.
Each booking form should only include the names of the people in one household or family bubble. If you wish to book for someone not in your household or family bubble please use a separate form for each group of people.

Please note that these forms are kept for three weeks only - then shredded. This register will enable us to provide the government Test and Trace team a list of contacts should someone in the congregation be diagnosed with Covid-19. Thanks for your understanding and apologies if this creates extra work for you but we are sure you will understand that spaces are limited and we are trying ways to maximise the number of places for Mass especially on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

In addition to the Test and Trace system used in church, if you have downloaded the NHS COVID-19 app onto your phone, when you visit church you will be also be able to check in by scanning a QR code at the church entrance. This will help the NHS to notify you if you have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus at that building. This is something that Places of Worship, businesses and organisations that are open to the public must do by law to help trace and stop the spread of coronavirus.

Please do not come to church if you are displaying any symptoms of the virus.

Live Streaming of Masses

Please follow the Church Services TV link below to access live streaming of Mass from one of our Churches at 10am EVERY day.

When you go onto the Church Services TV page for our Parish you will see that there are two labels which refer to the two different cameras used for streaming. These cameras are labelled Camera one and Camera two.

If you click on a camera and it does not give you the live-stream, please click on the other camera. Note that live streaming may not start until shortly before the publicized Mass time.

The 10am Mass is available to view on a PC, laptop, iPad, iPhone, Android Tablet or Mobile. Please take this opportunity to experience one or more of the live-streamed Masses from your local Church.

Just click here CHURCH SERVICES – STREAMING MASS NOT AVAILABLE? Sometimes we experience technical issues and the streaming of Mass from St John XXIII or St Joseph’s fails. If this happens then, as we are using Church Services TV to stream, it is easy to find an alternative Mass. You can look at “What’s On Now” or the schedule and select a Mass or search for a church by country, or region with in the country – there are two other churches listed in Tyne and Wear: St Charles, Gosforth and Sacred Heart, North Gosforth.

If we are not there don’t despair find another Mass “On Air”.

Mass from Our Blessed Lady Immaculate is now being streamed on Tuesdays using the newly installed camera and equipment and hopefully you will see and hear a big improvement in sound and picture quality.

We are aware of the continued picture and sound limitations of Masses streamed from St Bede’s Church. Work has begun to rectify this with the purchase of a camera similar to the ones currently used in St John Boste and Our Blessed lady Immaculate. We are now only waiting on the installation of a camera bracket before the system upgrade can be completed. It is hoped that this will all be done in the next week or so.

Mass Intentions can be arranged with the Parish Office  Email:  sj23office01@gmail.com or Tel:  0191 4163583.

Mass offering envelopes are available from the church porch. Completed envelopes should be posted in the parish office letter box.
